What to Wear - Back-to-School Mini Session

I've had some parents ask what their child should wear for the Back-to-School mini sessions, so I thought I'd do a post to give you some ideas. The sessions are coming up quickly ( next weekend, in fact) and it's nice to have a little time to look around for a new outfit. Some of my favorite outfit combos come from Gap Kids, The Children's Place and Gymboree. There are also lots of great outfits to be found at Target, Ross and Marshalls. It all depends on your budget. These are just a few suggestions...

I love the look of the school uniform, but jazzed up a bit with some funky socks and shoes, cute hair accessories, etc.

A little less school-like and so cute with the ruffles and bold combo of black and pink. LOVE it!

Do they have those shoes in my size? :D I'm also loving the watermelon and chocolate brown color combo.

It's a little bit more difficult to find funky items for boys. Often your only choice is a hat or tie. But that's okay too. We don't want to go overboard and take away from the child. My philosophy is, "Keep it simple." Dress your child in something that is comfortable and that compliments their skin tone. My son has gorgeous blue eyes and when he wears blue or teal they just pop.

I am so into the vest and hat combination right now. I have a boy and this is just such a fun look!

It's still pretty hot for a blazer in Florida, but it looks soooo sharp!

Back-to-School Mini Sessions

Ahhh, my sadly neglected blog......... I have been using Facebook so much lately that I have failed to post here since March. And honestly, I think the images are so much nicer to look at on a blog than in Facebook.

Let me ask you - would you rather check Facebook to look at images and get updates or would you rather check out the blog?? I'm just curious. If many of you decide that you prefer the blog interface, I may have to put Facebook on the back burner for a while. :) Let me know your thoughts.....

Neglected blog aside, I'm here to let you know that I will be photographing Back-to-School mini sessions on Saturday, OCtober 8 from 10-2 and on Sunday, October 9 from 12-4. If you're tired of your child's school portraits not turning out well, then this mini session is perfect!

The session fee is $20 and includes a 20-minute session for up to three children, images in an online preview gallery for two weeks and one image on a disk. Portrait packages are available as well as a la carte items.

A Photographer's Child...

This is the face of choice lately for my son. But I've finally figured something out...instead of trying to coax him into putting on a face I want to photograph, I just let him get it out of his system and then we move on.

It looks like he's channeling his inner James Dean or Elvis. :)

This was another revelation. Instead of trying to find things to say that will make him laugh I just let him talk. He cracks himself up pretty darn good if I do say so myself.

Pumpkin Patch Minis - Little Guys

Oh my goodness! Is this little guy cute or what?! I got to hold him for a little while. So squishy and smiley. Chubby legs...don't get me started! :)

Why is it that boys are blessed with such long lashes?

How do you contain a 20-month old? With a basket and trucks of course!

Look at those baby blues! Not to mention the cheeks and that hair!
He's going to be a heartbreaker mom. ;)

Pumpkin Patch Mini Session #1

I have to admit that I do photograph my son first every time I have a mini session. He's my assistant...whether he wants to be or not! LOL. He loves to help, so it's usually not a problem. And there's always candy...

This year I turned the images around quickly so that my clients could get their portraits before Halloween. Therefore, I neglected to do any Sneak Peeks. So, here we go! :)

I can only hope that when my clients look at their images they have the same reaction I do at times.

Amazement...at how fast their child is growing and how beautiful they are.

Halloween Exercise

To say that my son likes candy is a huge understatement. He L-♥-V-E-S it. So Halloween is hands-down one of all-time favorite holidays. But doesn't every major holiday come with candy these days???

Here he is in his squad car that I made for him. He thought it was really cool for about 5 minutes...until he figured out it would hamper his ability to rip through the neighborhood at blazing speeds. Fortunately, I had already seen that coming, so I got my couple of shots and then it came off.

I was going to use reflectors for the lights, but I couldn't find any at the Dollar Store, so I ended up with these LED lights. I envisioned him being able to benefit from the lights once it got dark. :)

There he goes! I sense that I took some similar pictures last Halloween too.

There he goes again...leaving his friends in the dust. You can't beat that smile though. :)

Bayside Worship Live Recording

I cannot tell you how excited I am to be a part of the Bayside Worship Live Recording next week! This worship team rocks! And no, I'm not singing. :) I'm going to be photographing the event.

The live recording for their new CD will take place on Wednesday, November 3 and Thursday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Bayside Community Church. Mini Session Location #1

I wanted to show some of the spots in Burns Court where I will be photographing families during my Holiday Mini Sessions on November 6th. This little location has so many spots and so many colors, there is something for everyone! You may have a hard time looking at a wall and seeing a great family portrait, but that's where I come in. I see great things when I look at a wall. Sounds kinda weird, but it's true :) Besides, it's not really the wall that makes the portrait - it's you, your kids, your family, your love for each other. ♥

Love this spot. The blue color is awesome and the steps are cozy.

I used to love this wall. In fact, it was my absolute favorite for photographs. Of course, it used to be tan with peeling red paint and it had vines. Not quite sure what happened, but it will take awhile for me to love this spot again. :)

I was tempted to remove this one, because I think you may look at it and say, "What about the electrical boxes and those bricks on the ground?" To which I say, "Trust me. It will look wonderful." :)

I just got the most wonderful package from FedEx this morning. Print Wraps from my lab! I have to get some of these for myself! A less expensive alternative to Gallery Wraps, they are a contemporary way of displaying your images. Here are some samples:

The back has holes for hanging. The wrap is ready to hang when you get it! No worrying about frames.

Sorry that this one is blown out a little.

I printed these on Metallic Paper and had matte lamination added. You can also get gloss lamination. I'm a matte kind of girl, but the gloss would only add to the depth and sparkle of the metallic paper. Well worth the little extra it costs.

I printed out these samples of my work to display at the Buddy Walk that will be held at Hunsader Farms on Saturday, October 23rd. I got involved with the Buddy Walk because my dear friend April and her husband have a little boy with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk is a super fundraiser for families with children who have Down syndrome. Last year was the first year they set up a booth to offer free pictures to the participants and we'll be doing it again this year. Stop by and say HI if you're out at Hunsader Farms for their Fall Festival on the 23rd!

As a photographer I try to capture the beauty and spirit of every girl I photograph. I think that oftentimes we get a very distorted view of beauty from fashion magazines and ads. Dove has a great set of videos for girls and women that show just how unreal the things that you see in magazines can be. If you have a daughter, please show her this video and discuss it with her. :)

After the Rain…

Last night we went for a short bike ride following some afternoon storms. We headed out as a family, but the beautiful light and the amount of wildlife activity was amazing, so I had to turn around and grab my camera.

The little guy above was right outside of our garage door. He was SUPER DUPER tiny. Not too fond of the paparazzi either. :) Most of the animals were a little camera shy last night.

My son and I made these deeee-licous Raspberry Swirl cupcakes today. Here's the link to the recipe at Eating Well.

Obviously, they take longer than cupcakes out of a box. I like to think of them as the "healthy" alternative to box cupcakes - even though there isn't such a thing as a healthy cupcake. The part that got me was making the raspberry puree. Pushing smashed raspberries through a strainer to get rid of the seeds is a bit more time consuming than I had hoped for. But I think the end result was worth the extra pain and effort. Sounds like childbirth instead of cooking. :)

The homemade frosting is to die for. I think everyone should just make the frosting, put it in a ziploc bag, cut the corner off and squeeze it in their mouth. Dinner is served! :) Hee. Hee.

Don't you just love the swirly swirl? I couldn't not take a photograph of it. Once her hair gets long we won't see it anymore. Just one of those adorable newborn traits that I love to capture.

This little girl did NOT want to sleep even though she had been up quite a bit the night before according to her mom. Mom was so ready to take a nap, but you wouldn't know it. She looks great!

There was a lot of this going on, but not a lot of what you see below. I think I must give off some kind of wake up vibe because most of my newborns never sleep during their session. Weird.

Macro Lens on a Budget

If you haven't tried macro photography before and are leery of the investment required to purchase a true macro lens, there's a more affordable way to get your feet wet. Instead of buying an all out macro lens, you can buy what's called a "reverse mount adapter" for your camera lens that gives you the same effect. I bought my reverse mount from a company called Fotodiox through Amazon. I used my reverse mount on my fixed 50mm f1.4 lens. Here's a link to a site that has an article to help you get started. On Easter Sunday I got the chance to try my hand at macro photography at Selby Gardens. I ♥ macro photography! It's all about the little details. I'll post more images in a couple of days as well as how you can make a "poor man's macro lens" out of your regular DSLR lens.

Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs

Not exactly the title you'd expect on a photography blog. :) Needless to say I made a mess out of the Easter eggs last year - more cracked than not - so I decided to do a little web search and see if there wasn't a way to get those perfect eggs. Sure enough, there was. Here's the link and the text for how to boil those eggs so they are in pristine shape for dyeing - or tie-dyeing as was our case. Hope this helps!

How to Make Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs

METHOD

1 First make sure that you are using eggs that are several days old. If this is Easter time, and everyone is buying their eggs at the last minute, buy your eggs 5 days in advance of boiling. (See the reference to using old eggs in Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking). Hard boiling farm fresh eggs will invariably lead to eggs that are difficult to peel. If you have boiled a batch that are difficult to peel, try putting them in the refrigerator for a few days; they should be easier to peel then.

2 Put the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan, covered by at least an inch or two of cold water. Starting with cold water and gently bringing the eggs to a boil will help keep them from cracking. Adding a tablespoon of vinegar to the water will help keep the egg whites from running out of any eggs that happen to crack while cooking, but some people find that the vinegar affects the taste. I don't have a problem with it and I usually add a little vinegar. Adding a half teaspoon of salt is thought to help both with the preventing of cracking and making the eggs easier to peel. Put the burner on high and bring the eggs to a boil. As soon as the water starts to boil, remove the pan from the heat for a few seconds.

3 Reduce the heat to low, return the pan to the burner. Let simmer for one minute. (Note I usually skip this step because I don't notice the eggs boiling until they've been boiling for at least a minute! Also, if you are using an electric stove with a coil element, you can just turn off the heat. There is enough residual heat in the coil to keep the eggs simmering for a minute.)

4 After a minute, remove the pan from the heat, cover, and let sit for 12 minutes. If you are doing a large batch of eggs, after 10 minutes you can check for doneness by sacrificing one egg, removing it with a slotted spoon, running it under cold water, and cutting it open. If it isn't done, cook the other eggs a minute or two longer. The eggs should be done perfectly at 10 minutes, but sometimes, depending on the shape of the pan, the size of the eggs, the number of eggs compared to the amount of water, and how cooked you like them, it can take a few minutes more. When you find the right time that works for you given your pan, the size of eggs you usually buy, the type of stove top you have, stick with it.

I also find that it is very hard to overcook eggs using this method. I can let the eggs sit, covered, for up to 15-20 minutes without the eggs getting overcooked.

5 Either remove the eggs with a slotted spoon and place them into a bowl of ice water (this is if you have a lot of eggs) OR strain out the water from the pan, fill the pan with cold water, strain again, fill again, until the eggs cool down a bit. Once cooled, strain the water from the eggs. Store the eggs in a covered container (eggs can release odors) in the refrigerator. They should be eaten within 5 days.

This little dude (at least I think it was a dude!) almost ended up becoming a part of our family he was so cute! It's so easy to get attached to these soft, little, nose twitching sweetie pies. :) This particular bunny was especially good. Very calm and well-behaved during the sessions.

I caught this shot between sessions. I seriously wondered what they were saying to each other.
Probably something like, " Do you want to get out of here as bad as I do? That last kid was a screecher!
I'm so pooped!"

They have lots of staff on hand to help you out with any questions you may have. They also have tons of puppies too. And they totally let the puppies come out and play with you.

Bunny Sneak Peek

Have we got some cute bunnies or what?!

This is my favorite. They're both adorable, but this one is a little bit smaller

and a little less curious than the other one. :) So sweet.

As you can see, I have changed the backdrop color from blue to tan. It looks so nice and neutral that anything the kids wear will look wonderful with it. (I do still have the blue available should anyone want it.)

Has anybody else got this "thing" that's going around? You know, the one where you sneeze your head off for a day and wonder what that was all about...which then leads to complete exhaustion and a funky out-of-body feeling and then the absolute inability to breathe through your nose. Which of course leads to the Dry Tongue and Lips Syndrome. :) I think I should invest in some Chapstick stock. Hope to be feeling better soon and hoping that no one else gets this "thing" as I like to call it. :)

Little Man

Can I just say how much I enjoyed photographing this little guy? He has got the sweetest smile. He kept me on my toes. I forgot how much they love to explore when they're one year old. :)

It's so much fun to take a step back and watch them at this age. To see how everything is new and fresh...something to be explored.

He found a little bug and was checking it out. Didn't go in the mouth. Whew!

My favorite redheads showed up for the Sweetheart Mini Sessions and were as adorable as ever. Especially the littlest one, who kept me (and her mom) running. :) She is a doll. Wish I had her energy.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Just a few images of my son helping me test out the new backdrop set up. Poor kid was home all week from school with an ear ache and now pink eye and I make him take pictures. :) He would waffle back and forth - "Let's take my picture now. No, let's not take my picture now."

This is the infamous Carter "jump" When he gets excited about something he has this habit of jumping up and down. It is the cutest thing and I'm so happy that I captured it. I've been trying to get it "on film" as they say for a while now. His hands are blurred, but that shows that he's jumping and this is so him. I love it. Who knows how much longer he'll continue this little ritual, so it's important for me to catch it while I can.

This is what we call "Monkey Lip Kisses" on my side of the family. :)

I'm not really sure what this is. He may be a photographer's kid, but I still get stuff like this. Most likely he'd had enough - which is about 5 minutes worth. LOL.

Three Days to Pumpkin Portraits!

I am so excited for Pumpkin Portraits this Saturday! I'm in a fall kind of mood - even though the weather isn't playing along with me. I put on jeans and a thin long sleeve shirt this week and then...I went outside. I guess good ole' Florida isn't ready to cool down just yet, but only a few more weeks and we should start seeing some nice cool weather. I've got my fingers crossed anyway. :)

Back to the Pumpkin Portraits...There are still some spots available, so if you've been thinking about it, make sure to sign up for a time. I promise you won't regret it. Here are some sample images of the props.

My reluctant assistant did offer me a few smiles tonight. I told him I wanted to see how the old fence looked. Pretty cool, huh? I can't wait to put it all together - the haybales, corn stalks, pumpkins, old crates and some CUTE kids.

If you're still looking/thinking about clothes, you may want to stop by some local consignment shops. I went to Snappy Turtle today and found some great dress shirts for Carter that had never been worn. Another local shop is Pitter Patter. It's a little farther away for me or I would go there more often.

I was in seventh heaven on Saturday afternoon because I was out photographing the most adorable 7 month old. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this is my absolute favorite age to photograph. Not just because they're a captive audience ;), but because they have the biggest, juiciest, best smiles in the whole world. This age just flat out makes me smile too.

Look at those eyes...and those chubby cheeks! Can you stand it?!

How handsome are these outfits??? I think most of them are from The Children's Place, but there may be one or two from Gymboree. They tend to have pretty cute boys clothes. I was in the Gymboree outlet recently and they had these great pirate shirts too. Arrrr! :)

All of these clothing combos came from either The Children's Place, Old Navy, Gap Kids or Gymboree. I tried to pick local stores that you could go to and shop. Of course, online is almost as easy anymore. :) These outfits are perfect for the pumpkin portraits. If you have an older child who can stand the heat, then by all means buy the jacket or long sleeve sweater. For the younger ones, I think it's best to deck them out in something not too hot. Limited Edition Pumpkin Patch Portraits

I love doing the annual Pumpkin Patch Portraits. It makes me think it's fall in Florida even when the temps are still in the 80's. This year I have a fantastic backdrop - an old weathered portion of a fence to go along with the corn stalks, haybales and the pumpkins. While most people opt to have the pumpkins in the portrait, I can just as easily remove them for a sweet fall portrait without the Halloween feeling.

This year not only will you be able to get some wonderful portraits at a great price, but you'll be helping out an awesome cause: The All Faiths Food Bank. Each and every penny of the $10 session fee will be donated to All Faiths by Studio B and your generosity.

Gearing up for fall and winter seasonal sessions with these gorgeous new backdrops. Don't you just love the colors? The neat thing about them is that they are essentially two-sided. The pattern is the reverse color on the back side, so if you have a preference for one color over another you've got a choice! I can't wait to try these puppies out. (More information to come in the next few days about Fall Pumpkin Portraits and Holiday Mini Sessions) The black and red backdrops will be gorgeous for holiday images, don't you think?

Light is Everywhere

Pretty cool stuff, eh? If you look in the upper right corner of these images you will see the night stars. When I stepped outside to take these photographs I didn't see anything other than the stars and black sky. That is, until the lightning flashed and lit up the clouds. Taking images of lightning is even more exciting than shooting fireworks because you never know what you're going to get. :)

The Ross Family

Love this family. :) They are so down-to-earth and some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Oh, and they know how to get silly - which I love. This first image was actually one of the last images from the session. The kids had been waiting for forever to get to make their "silly faces." Are they good at weird faces or what?!

Not only was this one good-looking family (all uber-coordinated), but they have this awesome property as well. So many nice areas for great images.

Gulf Gate Animal Hospital Session

If you are looking for a veterinarian for your pet, Gulf Gate Animal Hospital is the place to go. When we had cats we brought them here and they received great care. In fact, one time when our cat Emmett was pretty sick, "Jeanette the Vet" called at night to ask how he was doing because she was thinking about him. How sweet is that?! It was so amazing to see how much these two girls have grown since I last photographed them! So sweet and mom is so laid back. We used to be in a networking group together. Seems like eons ago, but it was more like 4 years. :) I stopped going after I'd had my son and he was about 10 months old or so I guess. Too hard to focus on a meeting with a baby who was on the move. Why didn't I get a babysitter you ask? Well...at the time I didn't really know any babysitters and even if I did I would have been worried about him the whole time. Issues. I've since gotten over the fear of using a babysitter.

These two love each other. I'm sure they'll be great friends when they get older.

Sneak Peek - Mom & Me Session

I had the hardest time picking out just two images of these two. They're so beautiful. Don't you agree?

(I hope you don't mind me sharing your story L.) When I asked if she was going to bring her mother to the session I found out that she had passed away when L was seven. She said, "The saddest thing is that I have absolutely no pictures of my mother." Wow. I was speechless. I couldn't imagine. The bright side of such a sad story is that L said she is going to make sure her daughter has images of her. These definitely show how much she loves her. I'm so privileged to capture that connection.

Today my heart hurts

I don't normally post personal stuff on my business blog, but today I can't help it. I spent some very precious time with my younger brother while he and his wife were down for a visit this week. It was wonderful to see him, but it was bittersweet because my "baby" brother will be shipping out in a couple of months for Afghanistan...for a year. When I think about that my heart just does a flip and then it hurts and I burst into tears.

I pray that God will watch over him every second of every day while he's there. Amen.

waiting for grandmas

We've been counting down the days until Grandma Lynda and Grandma Judy come into town for a visit for over a week now. We called Grandma Judy the other day to find out her favorite cookie recipe. You see, Carter loves to make cookies and wants to make sure we have the necessary ingredients to make said cookies. :)

I may be more excited than Carter for their arrival. My mom and grandma and I are "the three musketeers" and I miss them so much when we aren't together. Really looking forward to some silliness and taking some more four generation pictures. They are so important and wonderful to have. This is one I took a year and a half ago in the fall up in MN. Love it!

For those of you who follow my blog, you can probaly tell that I struggle with keeping it updated. I don't consider myself much of a writer and I think this keeps me from posting. Even though each session is unique and I really enjoy them, I really don't enjoy the process of writing about them. Make sense? So, I tend to be sparse in my posts. I'll try to do a better job, because it really is neat when someone you've never met before (Naomi) says, "Hey, I read your blog!" Thanks for motivating me to update my blog Naomi! :)

I did this session quite a while back. It was really a newborn session, but I took more images of the big brother than the newborn. First of all, the baby wouldn't go to sleep. And secondly, her big brother is such a ham for the camera I couldn't resist. She wasn't exactly liking the no-clothing situation, so I think that kept her awake.

I'm not much of a landscape photographer, but the trees in our backyard are blooming with such pretty flowers right now that I can't help but go out and snap a few shots. I don't know the technical name of the tree, but I call it a Tulip Tree. Our neighbor's Tulip Tree bird was so nice to deposit a few seeds in our yard and now we have our very own Tulip Tree. I love it.

BTW - the term "bokeh" in the title refers to the lovely light pattern you see behind the flower petals. So pretty. Enjoy. :)

valentine's day...a few days late

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day and got to spend some quality time with the ones you love. My little guy let me take this image of him for his Valentine's Day cards this year. I'm always so happy when he's in the mood for photographs because he's definitely going through an "I don't want to have my picture taken!" stage. Having a photographer for a mom makes that understandable...I guess. :)

This shot seemed so appropriate for Valentine's Day. I guess the artwork will be on permanent display in Sarasota now.

I wanted to get this sneak peek out tonight for the mom-to-be. :)

They chose to not know the sex of the baby. I would go crazy! LOL.

It was a beautiful night at the park with lots of wildlife that needed to be chased away. Literally. The squirrels and glossy ibises wouldn't leave us alone!

Just a super nice couple very excited for baby. Can't wait for the little one to arrive. :)

HUNGER HAS NO SEASON

The All Faiths Food Bank will be holding "Bowls of Hope" - their annual soup tasting event on Sunday, November 9, 2008 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Phillippi Estate Park. For a donation of $25 you get to take home a handmade bowl and will receive three soup tastings, a beverage, bread, pastries and cookies.

My husband, son and I attended this event last year for the first time. What a great way to get outside, try out some of the different food from local vendors and support a great cause.

All Faiths Food Bank provides food for 9,200 meals daily. That's a lot of people without food. Money is tight these days, but I urge you to please consider those in need by attending this event. I hope to see you there!

Our good friends and their little girl just came down for a visit. She is just so cute I can't stand it! I kept saying that the whole time they were here. She was soooo good about letting us dress her up in clothes that were way too hot for the 90 degrees that it still is outside. We had fans going to keep her and us cool. The images I got were so worth the sweat though!

She absolutely loves Elmo right now. Every time she sees him she starts to make these hysterical faces. Cracks me up every time I see it.

I took portraits of this little girl six years ago and she was a beautiful baby.

Look at the beautiful little girl she has become...

She had no interest whatsoever in eating this lollipop and that was fine by me. She started to wonder if we were ever going to stop playing hide-and-seek behind it though. :)

Dad got a laugh out of her towards the end of the session.

She was happy to do anything I suggested. Wanna' blow bubbles? Sure. Wanna' do the hoola hoop? Sure. Wanna' sit here on the hard rocks near this viney plant? Not so much - but she did it anyway.This is an extra long sneak peek for mom, who has been patiently waiting to see these images. :)

Christmas in September?!? I know it seems a little early to be planning for the holidays, but the fall always seems to go by so quickly. My husband and I turned on the radio in July and they were playing Christmas music all day. Turns out they do this every year, but before I knew that my thought was, "Boy, whoever left the Christmas music on all day is gonna' be F-I-R-E-D." :)

Anyway...a little bit about the cards. The samples above are 5x5 and 5x7 in size. I can design them to fit different sizes as well, but I just wanted to get the new ones out so they could be seen. The cards with color bars that run across can have customized text. The inside of the card can be customized as well. The back side of the cards will be the pattern from the front.

this is my godchild. she is absolutely adorable. i was so excited to photograph her since i haven't seen her since she was about a week old.

not sure if she was working on push ups here or just contemplating the quilt.

this makes me giggle. her mom loves it when she makes this face. guess who got her to make it? daddy. :) no surprise there as he is a funny guy.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...I LOVE RED HAIR. I am sooooo biased (being a redhead myself), but I don't think you'll disagree with me when I say that he has got to be the most handsome red-headed boy I think I've ever seen! And he's so sweet to boot!

He was getting pretty burnt out by this point, but his mom got a nice laugh out of him. I have another image I love where he's laughing so hard that his little nose is all wrinkled up. I love it!

This was very much a play session. He might disagree a little if you ask him, but he really got to play most of the session at the park. It was hot as you can tell. Looking forward to the end of summer here already (speaking for myself).

Messing around with some flare shots. Not sure if it loooks the way I had intended, but I still like it. Thanks for the great session C - you were awesome!

Welcome to the world little S! This little guy arrived a few weeks early to surprise everyone on the fourth of July. Can't say enough good things about this family. They are the nicest and most outgoing people you'll ever care to meet. They always make everyone feel at home.

Little Miss L...she did such a good job. Such a big transition for her. I have no doubt that she loves her little brother so much.

Well, hello! Aren't you just all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed?! Actually... he slept more than most newborns I've photographed!

Three generations of S! So cool to capture that and have forever.

Proud grandparents who can tell you the smallest details about all of their grandchildren. How's that for love?

Mr Smiley. I was able to capture several of his pre-smile smiles because he had so many.

I love this image because it sings to me..."I'm free! I'm free!"

I always ask moms if they have any special images they want to capture and they come up with the best ideas. The one above is S in his mom's belly cast that she had done during her pregnancy.

He slept right through the put-you-in-a-bowl-and-set-you-on-a-table manuever. Such a sweetie pie.

Chelsea stopped by my house before her session the other day so we could all carpool together. While I was talking to her mom, she spent some time with my son Carter. After she left that's all he wanted to talk about...Chelsea.

Now he says he wants me and my husband to go on a date so Chelsea can babysit. LOL.

We went to visit Chelsea at work the other night. GIDDY does not even begin to describe how Carter was acting. It was the cutest thing I think I've ever seen. This picture pretty much sums up how excited he was to see her. :)

We got sooo lucky with this shot. We were off photographing somewhere else and when we came back to change there was this beautiful cherry red Corvette Stingray in the parking lot. Thanks to the car owner (whoever that is) we got some great images using it as a prop. We didn't touch though. :)

My absolute favorite shot from last Friday's Urban Session with Chelsea. So nice, so easy to work with, and knows how to take a photograph!

She knew I wanted to get tons of different looks all in one session and boy did she come through! Lots of different clothing styles and fun locations downtown.

Babies grow up so fast. I love to show how quickly they change by showing images from two different sessions a few months apart. I took some shots of my friend's little guy in December of last year.

Note the cheerios on the chair...so necessary at this age to keep them occupied. :)

I took these images when I went to visit them in NY in June of this year. He looks like such a little man now. He's up walking around and starting to talk.

For the record, I didn't try to get him to pose this way. He just did it himself. Too cute!

My favorite one of him because he still looks little.

Well, he's five months old today! Look at how much he's grown! He has 3 or 4 teeth already and is outgrowing his 12 month clothing. I think we have a future basketball star on our hands here.

The Studio B Website is Back!

website issues

i've had a few people bring it to my attention that my website can't be found, or the link doesn't work. i was trying to surreptitiously get my new site ready and up before anyone found out about the old one being down. well, given that its taken me a YEAR to get the new one up, this was bound to happen. so, anyway...i finally have my new site ready to go and it is in the "propagation" stage. don't ask me what that means. all i know is that it should be up again for your viewing pleasure in a day or so.

this new site will be a much-needed upgrade to my old site. you'll be able to proof your images and place an order right from the site. very exciting stuff - once it's actually ready to view! :>)

So many wonderful images from this session. I had a hard time choosing just one or two. So, here's a whole bunch!

As usual for me, this little guy stayed awake the majority of the time. I must have some weird vibe that keeps newborns awake because almost every mom says, "That's so weird, he/she never stays awake this long." But, I suppose if somebody took me out of my comfy bed and placed me in sunlight I wouldn't feel like sleeping either! :>)

Big sister was sick so she couldn't be in on most of the action.

I call this one "The Look" This look says to me, "Hey lady! Let me go back to sleep will ya'!"

At eight days old this little guy was holding up his head and looking around. It was amazing. So strong.

We met John and Kris shortly after we moved to Sarasota in 1998. They had just moved here from Georgia, my husband and I from Minnesota. The four of us used to get together with another couple and hang out almost every weekend before we had kids - those were the good ole' days. :>) We went to visit them at their new place on the east coast of Florida a couple of weeks ago. It was just like old times - except we went to bed a lot earlier than we used to. LOL. Good friends just seem to pick up right where they left off - even when visits are years apart.

I couldn't resist getting a few shots of their beautiful little girls while I was there.

What a beautiful little boy. So new and so wrinkly. :>) It's such a privilege to be able to go into someone's home and photograph their newborn. Precious.

Still getting used to the idea of this tiny person who cries and squeaks and has taken up residence in their home. She's going to be a very loving big sister to this little guy.
